BAUER SELECTS™ 2012 PROGRAM

More Development Bang for your Buck™

The Bauer Selects™ Program fosters the best developmental environment possible for elite players, giving them exposure to high-caliber coaching and training methods and preparing them for Junior and College hockey.  The program combines education with athletics, looking to take the best athletes who play hockey and guide these hockey-playing athletes through the proper development process.  The Bauer Selects™ Program is more capable, more experienced, and more proficient at doing this than any other program out there.  Most importantly, our program gives our participating players more development at less cost, More Development Bang for your Buck™

Spending money wisely is not a novel concept.  But when it comes to the development of elite hockey players, the options are limited.  And when you consider what traveling to a weekend tournament costs, it is easy to see that as enjoyable as it might be, a weekend tournament will never be as valuable for a young player’s development as a full weekend of proper elite training.  A tournament team with three lines playing equally in a game with three 15-minute periods translates to 15 minutes of in-game time per player.  The next question of course is: during those 15 minutes of game time, how long will the player have the puck on his stick?  Games can be valuable, and tournaments can be fun, but if you are looking for development, and spending your money wisely is important to you, there’s only the Bauer Selects™.

Since its inception in 2005, the Bauer Selects™ program has had unparalleled success in achieving its mission to advance its players to the highest levels of hockey in the US and Canada.  Witness that more than fifty (50) Bauer Selects™ players have received NCAA hockey scholarships, with more than twenty (20) others opting to forgo their college eligibility and accept offers to compete in Canadian major junior hockey.  More than twenty (20) Bauer Selects™ players have been selected to USA Hockey’s NTDP in Ann Arbor.  And out of only three birth years of Bauer Selects™ players eligible for the NHL Player Drafts (91s, 92s and 93s), a total of sixteen (16) have been NHL-drafted, including four (4) First-Rounders and four (4) Second-Rounders.

These numbers are remarkable by any measure.  They are a testament to the quality of the Bauer Selects™ program, and of course to our players and to the outstanding coaches who contribute their expertise and experience.  And just as we expect our Bauer Selects™ players to reach higher and higher in their quest for excellence, we are not content to simply rest on our laurels.

In 2012, we will conduct our programs for the 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 birth years.

The Bauer Selects™ will be overseen again this year by Gino Cavallini and Ryan Taylor.

Our Program Has Three Components;

I – Bauer Selects Training Academy™: Proper, scientifically-proven, high-level training is the very heart and soul of the Bauer Selects™ program.  And our Training Academy contains three aspects:

A. Top 40 Training™ Weekend: In May, we will conduct our inaugural Top 40 Training™ weekend at the University of Notre Dame’s new Compton Family Center ice facility.  The 96s, 97s, 98s, 99s, 00s, 01s, 02s and 03s will all have their sessions on the May 4-6 weekend.  Only 40 players will be given the opportunity to train, compete and practice with some of the best players from around North America. At the training weekend, players will receive professional training that encompasses all aspects of their full development as athletes and hockey players.  In addition to six and a half (6.5) hours of on-ice training, they will experience the full gamut of the highest-level training, including off-ice sessions, video sessions, nutrition seminars, meals at our training table, as well as learning basic psychology of sports and competition.

B – Residence Training Camp: Starting the week of June 19, the 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001 age Bauer Selects™ players will have the opportunity to advance to our intensive Residence Training Camp.  Players stay at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois and skate and train at the nearby Seven Bridges Ice Arena, home of the Chicago Mission AAA Hockey Club.  At this camp the players receive more high-level training with elite coaches from various backgrounds, including college and junior hockey.  And even as the high tempo of the training sessions challenges the players’ physical skills, the emphasis remains on developing the thinking skills so important to elite competitive hockey, with a focus on key tactical concepts and developing the situation-recognition skills so essential for playing the team game at a high-level.

C – College Coaches Weekend: At the conclusion of the Residential Camp on June 22, all our age-levels will learn from and train with a variety of current NCAA college hockey coaches, as well as USHL junior coaches.  This in essence is another elite-level training component for our players.  But it is much more, because not only will the coaches conduct some 5 hours of on-ice training with each age-level, but also they will host our annual Coaches Q&A Forum™, an interactive seminar for parents to learn all aspects of advancing to the college hockey level.

IITournament Events: In keeping with our emphasis on cost-effective high-level training, Bauer Selects™ teams will compete in only two or three spring/summer tournaments.  Two separate teams may be fielded at some levels.  Our goal is for our teams to compete in one tournament prior to the Top 40 Training™ weekend and in one subsequent to it (see the individual age-level schedules for the tournaments).

III – Bauer Tretyak Latvia Invite, Riga, Latvia: From July 29 through August 6, the Bauer Selects will send teams at the 96, 97, 98, 99, 00, 01 and 02 levels to Riga, Latvia to compete against the best that Europe and Russia have to offer.  Last year’s inaugural Challenge event in St. Petersburg, Russia showcased an amazing array of talent, including what were essentially “national” teams from Sweden, Czech and Finland, as well as the very top clubs from Russia.  Operated in conjunction with Russian hockey legend Vladislav Tretyak, the Bauer Tretyak Latvia Invite, tournament will cap off the 2012 Bauer Selects™ season.
